Farm Status Appeal – Property Assessment Review Panel (PARP)
BC assessment does not send out farm status approval notices. You will need to check your assessment notice when you receive it around the first week of January to verify if your land has farm classification. If you do not receive your Assessment Notice by January 10th, we recommend you contact your local assessment office to request a reprint notice.
Check the land value portion of your assessment to confirm if the value are legislated farm rates. Farm rates are significantly lower than market value.
You can also find your property assessment on BC Assessment’s website. The images below are from a property that has approval for Farm Classification. If your property has the orange coloured information icon, hover over it with your mouse to read the farmland message.
If your property did not receive approval for Farm Classification, you have three options:
- Appeal the assessment based on classification. You must submit your farm class appeal no later than January 31st.
- Find out why your farm application was denied, correct the issue and reapply for 2024.
