About Oliver BC farmland

Agriculture and agricultural products have been identified as the community’s primary economic strength. The character and viewscapes of rural Oliver, shaped by agricultural activities and the preservation of ecologically sensitive areas, provide residents and visitors with a rich and unique environment as well as a highly valued lifestyle.

Having said that, increased developer interest and an influx of people looking to live in a rural setting combine to threaten the future of Rural Oliver’s agricultural lands. This document articulates clearly defined policies that will serve to protect, enhance, and expand the agricultural lands of Rural Oliver, and thus the economy and quality of life of residents in both Rural Oliver and the Town of Oliver.

Oliver has been developing its Agricultural Area Plan to determine agricultural direction since 2004. The concept incorporates the Oliver Area’s natural advantage in terms of a diverse range of agricultural products, as well as its rapidly growing reputation as a tourist destination. Within this adventure, the agricultural community is both essential to the plan’s success and equally vulnerable to the risks associated with its success.
