About Prince George BC farmland

The Prince George region is experiencing a farm transition period as many new operators enter the industry. The region provides inexpensive land close to a developing population centre.

High, gently rolling plateaus can be found in the Prince George area. They are appropriate for cattle ranching, which takes place in the improved pasture uplands and forested range. In the valleys of the Fraser River and its tributaries, forage crops are grown. The Nechako River joins the Fraser River near Prince George, which is a significant watercourse.

The soils along the river bench are sandy or silty loams. Alfalfa, potatoes, cabbage, turnips, cauliflower, and carrots can all be grown well with them. Despite the high clay content of the old glacial lake bottoms, they are excellent for growing crops like timothy, brome grass, alsike and red clover, as well as oat-barley cereal silage or grain, when the soil is properly managed.
